Blankets, shoes and backpacks lie strewn on the ground at the site of a crush in northern India which took place in the early hours of Wednesday at the huge Kumbh Mela religious festival.

Several worshippers are feared injured and sources have told the BBC that at least a dozen people have been killed – although there is no official confirmation.
