Named the world’s tallest rollercoaster at 456ft (139m) when it opened in 2005, Kingda Ka was demolished at the Six Flags theme park in New Jersey.

Local officials warned that surrounding areas may hear a “series of rapid explosions” coming from the theme park as the implosion took place.

The ride is one of several being retired at the park, making way for new attractions.
