The fire burning in the Pacific Palisades, an affluent Los Angeles neighbourhood near Malibu and Santa Monica, has been growing at an alarming rate.

Its trajectory has been fuelled by a fierce wind event – dry winds from the mountains to the north and east and down to the LA coast, which are called the “Santa Ana winds”.

CBS News, BBC’s US partner, has correspondent Danya Bakus reporting from the scene. She explains how the “explosive” inferno is growing, with wind gusts sending embers that spread the flames.
